Delicious and Nutritious!

I wrote previously about our wonderful day at Hei Zhi Ma Primary School, truly the highlight of my trip! What I did not include at the time was the amazing, delicious meal we enjoyed with our hosts. After visiting the art class, we were treated to a school lunch which included soup, rice, cauliflower in a red sauce, beef with green peppers and onions, roasted chicken that literally fell off the bone, dragon fruit, and a Beijing specialty – yogurt (more of a custard consistency) with sweet red beans. I was amazed to find that the food we were eating was also available to the students of the school! They assured us that they had not prepared a special meal because we were visiting. The only thing the students did not have access to was the dragon fruit, which has a fresh, sweet taste that is something like a cross between a kiwi and a pear, without having a strong flavor.
